Recipe: Full English Breakfast Pizza
Everyone knows that pizza makes the most incredible breakfast food... So why not create a pizza specifically for breakfast? This pizza includes all the best bits of a full English breakfast - sausage, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns... IT. IS. IMMENSE!
- 500 g Plain Flour
- 2 tsp Salt
- 0.5 tsp Dried Active Yeast
- 300 ml Water
- 2 Baking Potatoes
- 1 Small Onion
- 50 g Salted Butter, Melted
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- 250 ml Passata
- 3 tbsp Brown Sauce (HP)
- 8 Rashers of Smoked Streaky Bacon
- 4 Pork Sausages
- 2 Large Field Mushrooms
- 1 Knob Butter
- 250 g Cheddar, Grated
- 4 Eggs
- A Few Sprigs of Parsley
Make The Dough
Mix the flour, salt and yeast together in a large bowl, then stir in the water.
Knead the dough just enough until it comes together into one ball and place in the bottom of the big bowl, cover with clingfilm and leave at room temperature to prove overnight (at least 12 hours… up to 18 is usually fine, but will depend of the temperature of your room!) Aim for something that has doubled and has small bubbles on the surface of the dough ball.
The Toppings - Hash Brown
Grate the peeled potato and dump into a bowl.
Peel and dice the onion and mix with the potato, melted butter and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Press gently into a warm oiled frying pan and cook over a medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
Flip the hash brown and cook for another 10 minutes on the other side.
Check the potato is fully cooked and is crispy on both sides, then roughly break up into chunks.
The Toppings - Mushrooms
Peel and slice the mushrooms, then fry in a knob of butter and keep to one side.
The Toppings - Sausages
Remove the sausages from their skins and break up the meat. Use the mushroom pan to fry the sausage meat.
The Toppings - Bacon
Preheat an oven as hot as it will go (about 240ºC).
Bake the bacon slices on a baking tray until cooked, but not quite crispy.
Beat the tomato passata with the brown sauce.
Making The Pizza
Roll chunks of the proven dough out on a lightly floured surface to a circle about 20cm across. You should get 4 of them.
Transfer to a baking tray and spread over a little of the tomato sauce then scatter with all of your prepared toppings… sausage meat, bacon rashers, mushroom slices and hash brown chunks.
Bake The Pizza
Grate over some cheese and bake the pizzas on baking trays for 10 minutes.
Crack an egg into the centre of the pizza and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
*Reduce the total cooking time by 3-4 minutes if using a stone.
Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley and with a mug of fresh coffee... Basking in the glory of your win!
